Uruguay is making strong progress: meat exports are up 27% so far in 2025.

The southern country increased its beef sales by 27% in the first four months of the year, achieving revenues exceeding $753 million. Its shipments found a more profitable market in the United States than China, without having to increase production. Uruguay closed the first four months of 2025 with encouraging figures for its foreign trade. Total exports of goods grew 4% compared to the same period last year, in a regional context still affected by global uncertainty. But it was the meat sector that led the way, consolidating its key role in the country's economy. (Read in CONtexto Ganadero: El Coraje, the Uruguayan herd that produces 150,000 brangus embryos per year, arrives in Colombia) Beef generated sales of $753 million in the first four months of the year, representing a 27% year-over-year increase. In April alone, exports of this product reached $226 million, a 32% increase compared to the same month in 2023. In total, more than 33,000 tons were placed on international markets. This performance is not due to an increase in domestic production, but rather to a change in the destination of exports. The United States has displaced China as the main buyer of Uruguayan beef, marking a shift that is no coincidence.
